Acceptance

By downloading or using Straphanger, you agree to these terms.

What the App Does

Straphanger provides real-time NYC subway information using data from the MTA and other third-party sources. We do our best to keep things accurate, but we cannot guarantee that arrival times or service alerts will always be correct.

Your Responsibilities

Please use the app lawfully and do not reverse-engineer, scrape, or redistribute it.

Disclaimer

Straphanger is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the app.

Changes

We may update these terms. Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms.

Privacy Policy

Data We Collect

We collect minimal data. If you grant location permission, the app uses your location to show nearby stations. Your location is not stored on our servers or sent to any third party.

Data We Don't Collect

We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any account information. There are no accounts. We do not use analytics or tracking. We do not sell or share any data with third parties.

Device Identifier

Straphanger generates a per-install device identifier the first time the app contacts our backend. This identifier is created using Apple's App Attest framework, which produces an opaque key that is unique to your installation of Straphanger on your device. It is not your Apple ID, your device serial number, your advertising identifier, or any other identifier shared with other apps or services.

We send this identifier with each request to the Straphanger backend in order to:

• Enforce per-device rate limits so that a single installation cannot overwhelm the service and degrade arrival times for other riders.
• Count the number of active installations for aggregate usage metrics (for example, how many devices used Straphanger in a given week).

We do not link the device identifier to your name, email address, location history, Apple ID, contact information, or any other personal data, and we do not share it with third parties or advertisers. The identifier is regenerated if you delete and reinstall Straphanger, and it cannot be used to recognise you across other apps or websites.

Our legal basis for processing this identifier is our legitimate interest in keeping the Straphanger service available, reliable, and free from abuse.

Data Storage

Your favorites and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not have access to them.

Children

Straphanger is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
